Get a realistic price range for common dental procedures in your state — with and without a typical PPO insurance plan — before you sit in the chair. Ranges are compiled from published national fee surveys and adjusted with a regional cost index; your dentist’s quote may differ.
How to read the estimate
The “no insurance” range is what dentists typically charge cash-pay patients. The insured estimate applies a typical PPO structure (preventive care covered at 100%, basic restorative at 80%, major work at 50%, cosmetic and orthodontic work usually not covered) and does not account for your deductible or the annual maximum, which is often $1,000–$2,000.
Ways to pay less
- Dental schools: 30–50% below private practice, supervised by faculty.
- Community health centers with sliding-scale fees.
- In-house membership plans offered by many practices.
- Ask for a cash-pay discount or phased treatment.
